Fancy foot work

This time I really was hassled for an update, no lie!

I've been having some fun making the first foot.  I'd gotten into the habit of cutting pieces as I went along which was becoming tedious, so decided to cut out all the pieces I'd need in one go.  Took me most of a Saturday afternoon, but it was worth it! (not all pictured, I took this while resting my bleeding fingers!)

You should know by now what comes next, glue!  So I won't bore you with too many details on this bit, but here's some pics :)

The side piece below was fun.  This is a 2mm thick plate, with 1mm detail pieces stuck on.  It looks almost cast!

I'm working on the trim along the bottom, update to come.

Next part was the curve where the battery boxes.  This was tricky for several reasons.

First of all, the 1mm plastic did not want to fit into the curve.  I tackled this by bending the sheet of plastic by hand first and encouraging it to sit curved.

Then to hold the piece against the uprights, I held the can I've been using to stick to plans to the styrene against the plastic which forced a good contact.

The long pieces of plastic sticking out here was to stop the 1mm piece from bending in the middle.  I should have glued a side piece on here first, but I forgot!  This did the trick though so I'm happy.
I've recently received some aluminium outer skins, which encouraged me to glue the inner skins on and start fixing the detail parts such as the octagon ports and coin slots.
My frame, having been taken apart a few times now, wasn't sitting entirely straight.  One of the rings was slightly out of alignment so I took some 1mm strips, filed them down to some where between .5mm and 1mm and glue it into the appropriate places.  They skins have now been glued and to the human eye looks straight.  If there is any warp in them, it shouldn't be much and when the aluminium skins are fitted they should still hold on nice and tight and not cause any issues

I'm happy with how it looks!  The skins fit tight, and the frame feels solid with them on.

Here's a nice bonus pic with the aluminium skins taped on :)
