But nothing really related to B4. Doh!
While I'm not officially admitting to starting on the second droid yet, I have been prepping my aluminium dome. I've been very slow with every stage, taking as much time and care as I possibly can :)
You guys ever seen the TV series 24? I hadn't I've only just started watching it on LoveFilm. Ignore the below if you want to avoid spoilers
I started off using a junior hack saw blade (popping one of the tabs out so it would fit through the gap) and sawing gently through each tab on a panel. then I finished each of them off and removed the panel. The idea was I didn't want to warp any of the metal around the tab from forcing it off.
Meanwhile, Jack got a call from the office and was called in at around 12:15am. His daughter, Kim, went off in a strop and decided to sneak out the house and go partying like a bad girl leaving her poor mother worried sick!
After removing all the panels I laid them all out for this pretty shot :)
Speaking of shots, Richard Walsh is gunned down while Jack tried to rescue him. He gets a key card, takes it back to CTU, an assassin leads us to think that someone else is the assassin, blows up a plane, other bad guys do bad things and the president isn't bothered by the gun threat but has family problems. And Kim gets kidnapped, and the friend she's with has a dad who's not really her dad but another bad guy and Jack goes to hospital to meet them but gets compromised and there's a dirty agent but it's not Nina but she's angry with Jack but helps him anyway and Jack stops Palmer being shot.
Back to the dome, you can see here the bur is not allowing the outer dome to sit flush with the inner dome.
After removing the bur, the outer dome now sits nice and flush with the top! However, I have an inner dome that's too small. Other people have had inner domes that are too big and require a lot of sanding, however I have one that's too small and will need cutting and re-shaping. Rotopod has done a great job of showing that this is a good way to go, but I know someone in the UK with a dome that is too big for his outer, so we're going to try swapping and seeing what the fits are like.
Jack and Nina are BFF's again despite being awkward ex's, and Jack shoots her, but after putting her in a flack jacket so she doesn't really mind, and Terri, Kims Mum is also kidnapped because of the bad guy that wasn't really a dad and Jack is really annoyed by them now so chases them down without CTU's help because they're doing a rubbish job anyway and just drinking lots of coffee and reading lots of dialogue. Kim starts having fantasies about her captor, Rick, for some reason who burries his friend who was a bad guy and he's not really a bad guy but he kind of is but helps them escape but he still feels like he's a bad guy so when Jack arrives to save the day he runs off because he doesn't want to get caught and Jack gets shot at by a sniper and Terri has a rubbish sense of direction but everyone is saved and happy but the bad guys are still out there somewhere.
While removing the tabs on the dome, I used electrical tape to save me catching the file on them and leaving a scuff. I used two different files, finishing them off with a fine needle file. very happy with the results.
Kim and Terri go to a safe house that's not that safe because they're attacked again but they escape anyway and then Terri proves she's not just bad and directions but also a terrible driver and leaves the handbrake off and there's an explosion and BOOM she thinks that she's blown up Kim and forgets who she is and then goes to a restaurant and meets her ex who takes her home and gets shot, Kim goes and finds Rick who's selling drugs and not talking about Bob who died and then the dealer is a policeman and they all go to jail and no-one believes Kim. Jack and Palmer are now friends and Jack is still busy putting in overtime at work and running after bad guys even though he's really tired and keeps getting arrested, there's more baddies than we thought to begin with and they work out why Palmer was being shot at (they're annoyed) and finds a prison that doesn't exist and the top bad guy gets free and kidnaps Jack this time. Terri goes to CTU and remembers everything and is relieved to hear Kim is OK but a bit pissed off with Nina a bit. But that's probably hormones talking.
Here's a before and after with one of the panels. I used scotch brite pads to clean up the surface and take away the scuffs. This isn't a final finish, I will wait until I am closer to painting stages to get a nice finish on it.
Kim and Nina in trouble, but CTU and Jack sort things out and Kim kicks ass to save herself and the bad guys are worried and lose another assassin, Jack thinks Kim is dead and gets angry because that's what Nina told him so he shots the final boss loads of times and forgets he's run out of ammo and needs to reload, then he's annoyed with Nina because she was dirt all along! So he goes and shoots her out of his window in the car park and no-one has heard from Rick in a while, Palmer and his wife split up and he decides he doesn't want to have the affair is wife arranged for him. Everyone is pretty much happy at the end except for Jack because bloody Nina shot her because she's an annoying cow that I never liked anyway.
So that's where Jack and I are up to now :) Happy with how things are shaping up with the dome. I have big plans for this droid, much more of a serious robot than the first droid so watch this space :)
